When left untreated, problems can become more complicated to address later. Catching them early—or preventing them altogether—is always the best approach.

What happens during a Dental Check-Up?

At each visit, your dentist will:

• Examine your teeth, gums, and mouth carefully
• Ask about your overall health and whether you’ve experienced any issues with your teeth, gums, or mouth since your last appointment
• Discuss your diet, smoking or alcohol use, and daily oral hygiene habits, while providing practical advice
• Agree on a suitable time for your next visit

How often should you book a Check-Up?

After your check-up, your dentist will let you know when you should return. The recommended time can be as soon as 3 months or 2 years (usually within 1 year for patients under 18).

The healthier your teeth and gums are, the longer you can wait between visits. Patients with excellent oral health may only need to attend once every 12 to 24 months, while those at higher risk of problems will require more frequent appointments.

What about dental treatments?

This guidance applies to routine check-ups only. You may still need separate visits for treatments such as fillings, tooth extractions, or emergency dental care.
